have been looking into and reporting on some of romney's debate preps. you're right, carol. you mentioned that romney was with gop senator rob portman. i got to tell you, it is surprising that romney wants to hang out with portman still since he has been playing president obama. by all accounts in the mock debates, portman has been very, very tough on romney, to prepare him for the real thing. portman is the go-to guy for republicans for debate prep. he's worked with republican candidates since 2000 and i spoke with senator portman in an exclusive interview about what he does to prepare to prepare romney. >> how they're likely to express themselves, what the body language is going to be like, try to imitate the person, but you try to give a fair presentation, you know to whoever you're working with as to what they're likely to do. >> now, portman and romney's other members of his inner cile have been doing mock debates with him on and off for about a month. he had his first round of debate boot camp at mock debates in vermont during the democratic convention and he's had it seve

romney, the obama camp thinks that plays right into the expectations and now it's raising them very high for mitt romney to have to shake it up in these debates, harris. >> harris: as we know from carl cameron that mr. romney has been at the campaign headquarters in boston preparing. why is the president in nevada? >> well, it's a battle ground state as you've noted earlier and i remember covering john kerry in 2004. a debate against the president, then president bush in arizona and did his debate prep in new mexico, a media attention in the battle ground state and he's trying to do that president obama in nevada and the foreclosure crisis and the unemployment rate double digits and the president knows economic challenges here and hoping he'll get a little play for his message and his plans and rally and it's going to start a few moments behind me with someone with early voting starting in nevada in a couple of weeks and they feel good in the obama camp. nevada even though it's hard hit, the polls show the race very close and they think mitt romney should be far ahead with the economic m
.z., right? >> no, absolutely not. and the thing is, is that mitt romney really seems to fungd well when he's coming from behind. so if there's anything that would give him any hope it's that when he seems to be coming from someone else has momentum, he can take that momentum, he seems to perform much better than has a front-runner. if he has any hope going in knowing expectations are extremely low for him, if he's able to take that and be aggressive and attack president obama, because let's face it the president is still extremely fuller inable. the only reason why romney isn't winning is because romney's been an absolute idiot the past two to three weeks. so if he can correct that by being aggressive, perhaps he can swing the momentum back to his favor. >> we like to use the word missteps. anna, let me give you the final word. president obama is vulnerable. he's been called a wonderful orator, that he mesmerizes audiences when he speaks, but he is vulnerable. where does romney have to strike him? >> look, i think romney needs to do what he did in the last two debates of the primary in flo

, where do you think the presidential race is right now? >> i think mitt romney is looking very good. that's why the obama administration didn't want to run against mitt romney. he was clearly the most threatening of the republican candidates. i think he's the strongest candidate against obama. it's hard to take out an incumbent. republicans have only done it one time before in the last 100 years. when reagan beat carter. i guess isn't the last time it's happened when clinton took out bush, right? so it's curious, for example that there were 70 million viewers of that debate the other night, the highest it's been since 1992, the last time an incumbent was taken out. i think that's because people are uncomfortable with obama but if they're not political nuts, like we are, they haven't been paying attention, haven't been watching all the debates and they just want to see who the challenger is and whether they're comfortable with him. and i think after wednesday night, everyone's pretty comfortable with mitt romney. >> you were early, looking back, i was reading back on your twitter feed last
